"The Enemy," Electrical Market Predictions, ANSI Round Out PEARL Conference Speakers February 2011 Also available in PDF format. Car engine remanufacturer will explain why OEMs are "The Enemy" to independent resellers, PEARL Director and past-NETA board member, Stuart Jackson, will lay out the way to ANSI acceptance for PEARL, and Electrical Wholesaling's Doug Chandler will discuss his predictions for the electrical marketplace at this year's PEARL conference.
AURORA, CO - When Stefan Kurschner, President of Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing, agreed to speak at PEARL's 14th Annual Conference to be held in Portland, May 14-16, he said he would be happy to discuss the importance of remanufacturing, but quickly added, "…you know I'm the enemy."
Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing is a subsidiary of Detroit Diesel Corp. (Detroit), major OEM supplier of commercial vehicle systems. Mr. Kurschner recently attended the "Strategic Dialogue on Remanufacturing Policy" roundtable along with PEARL incoming Vice President Malcom Frederick of Coastal Switchgear and Controls Inc. (Angleton, TX).
"Although Stefan represents the OEM point of view of the remanufacturing debate, which can pit independent remanufacturer against OEM, his insight will be invaluable for PEARL members to understand the concerns that OEMs have when it comes to independently remanufactured product," said Frederick. The remanufacturing policy roundtable was co-hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology and the U.S. Council on Competitiveness in Washington D.C., January 24-25, 2011.
In another important development for the electrical remanufacturing industry, PEARL Director Stuart Jackson of Instel Power (Simpsonville, SC) will deliver a presentation at the PEARL conference that lays out the path for PEARL to become a Standards Development Organization (SDO) for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The PEARL board recently voted to officially pursue ANSI SDO status, naming Mr. Jackson as the Chairman of the newly created ANSI Subcommittee because of his previous ANSI work through NETA.
"PEARL has always regarded its standards as being the soul of the organization; its greatest value statement and promise," says David Rosenfield, PEARL Director and President of ROMAC (Commerce City, CA). "I believe that it is natural for PEARL to take a position as an ANSI Standards Developer and expose our current standards to industry professions in order to subject them to critical review. They will only become better, more important as a result. I think we're all looking forward to beginning this new and exciting chapter in PEARL development."
Other speakers scheduled for the PEARL Electrical Safety, Reliability, and Sustainability Conference & Exhibition include Dennis Knutz of the Investment Recovery Association (IRA), who will explain how to build relationships with larger companies to support their sustainability efforts with reconditioned electrical apparatus, and keynote speaker Katrina Shum-Miller of the U.S. Green Building Services -- the group that oversees the U.S.' Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. Doug Chandler, editor of Electrical Wholesaling magazine, will follow Shum-Miller's presentation with a first-of-its kind market analysis of remanufactured electrical product within the larger electrical supply chain. PEARL's conference also includes two, 1-day training sessions to be held at the local IBEW hall, each of which has been approved by the State of Oregon to qualify for four continuing education credits (CEUs).
Interested attendees and exhibitors should contact the PEARL office at 877-287-3275, send an email to pearl@pearl1.org or visit www.Pearl1.org. Corporations that join PEARL within 30 days of the conference will have their conference registration fee applied to their new membership dues.
