Ask the Simulator: ‘So, What Turns Your Motor’ At PEARL Conference Training Seminars February 2009 Also available in PDF format. Motor Bucket ‘Simulator’ brings motor circuit training to life for attendees, while extensive take-home reference materials offer something to the guys back at the shop.
AURORA, CO, February 4, 2009 – All work and no play makes Jack a very bored electrical technician, which is why organizers for PEARL’s Electrical Safety and Reliability Conference & Exhibition to be held at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, April 18-20 are bolstering this year’s two-day training sessions with a one-day lab workshop, including hands-on access to the latest equipment by the industries leading manufactures of test instruments and special motor control simulators developed by electrical training provider, AVO Training Institute.
To further the value of the two-day training sessions on Low Voltage Motor Controls, PEARL training organizer, member, and President of Coastal Switchgear & Controls Inc. (Angleton, TX) Malcom Frederick, said his team put extra work into the take-home reference materials that attendees will receive at the seminar. In additional to these manuals, each attendee completing the two day curriculum will receive a 11” x 8.5 “ PEARL training certificate.
“Attendees will get two, 4-inch binders that start with the fundamentals, such as Ohms law, electrical symbologies, and common calculations before going into the specifics of motor control units, components and technical specifications. These manuals will also include the PEARL reconditioning standards covering the reconditioning of devices and wiring diagrams for Low-Voltage Motor Control Buckets,” explains PEARL’s Frederick. “During the first day of classroom training, we’ll review Kirchoff’s and Ohm’s Law and explore Ladder Logic, followed by a safety portion to emphasize the need for proper hazardous energy control, including test instrument usage. Following with classroom, attendees will troubleshoot motor control circuits on de-energized equipment that will sharpen each technician’s knowledge in the repair and safety of motor controls. Day one concludes with attendees designing a circuit in ladder logic to meet specific motor needs, drawing the needed control devices, and developing an actual schematic for a motor control circuit. The second day we’re hands on with the latest test equipment, inspections and evaluation of manufactures MCC buckets, and wiring 24-volt motor control simulators.”
The conference begins on Saturday, April 18 with a golf tournament and local PEARL facility tour. On Sunday, forensic engineers Helmut and Peter Brosz will use CSI-style investigations to show how good reconditioning practices lead to safe products while non-standards based reconditioning pose dangers. On the final day of the conference, Andrij Harlan from the National Center for Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery will discuss the environmental and financial benefits of remanufacturing and reconditioning, preceded by project management guru, Clinton Padgett’s Keynote address on how to manage for success.
Interested attendees and exhibitors should contact the PEARL office at (877) 287-3275, send an email to pearl@pearl1.org or visit www.Pearl1.org to save $100 through early registration. Corporations that join PEARL within 30 days of the conference will have their conference registration fee applied to their membership dues. PEARL’s 2010 conference is scheduled for the Westin Tabor Center in Denver, April 24-26.
