Internet Committee Report
June 2010
The World Wide Web never sits still, and neither does the PEARL Internet Committee.
Recent accomplishments include:
- Removed the 'Splash' animation page that used to precede the home page when you visit the PEARL website
- Received approval for a PEARL Wikipedia, which was created and can be viewed using this link.
- Launched the PEARL Link feature on the PEARL Website which allows the public and PEARL members to send 'Buy' or 'Sell' requests to all voting members through a single, short form. We've had 487 member-to-member queries in the first 5 months of 2010, bringing the total to 921 inquiries in the 11 months since the PEARL Link was launched. There have been a total of 113 "public" inquiries through the first 5 months of 2010. One of our members reportedly made $80,000 on a single query. Look for a newsletter story to follow soon. Now, THERE'S a reason to become a full voting member and get access to the PEARL Link.
- Posted tons of PEARL updates to the members-only Intranet, including minutes, leads from recent trade shows, and test report forms.
The Internet Committee has some important ongoing projects as well, including:
- Development of a PEARL 'Buyer's Guide' with Member Profile Pages for web surfers looking for more information about PEARL member companies and their areas of expertise
- Exploring Social Media Marketing (SMM), including how PEARL may one day use Twitter, Facebook, My Space, etc.
As we all have learned in recent years, the Internet is a powerful tool for promoting business, including PEARL. I'm happy to report that our Internet Committee has grown significantly in recent months, but there's plenty of room for new ideas. If you'd like to be notified of when Internet Committee meetings will be held, just shoot me (BSchofield@CBSales.com) or PEARL Association Manager Mark Stone an email (pearl@pearl1.org) and we'll add you to the list. If you have an idea but don't have time to make the meeting, put that in an email.
In the meantime, I'd like to thank our committee members for their ongoing help and support, including:
Bob Libbey, JBL Global
David Rosenfield, ROMAC
Don West, Southland Electrical Supply Co.
Jim Feilbach, Technitrol Inc.
Joshua Rosenfield, ROMAC
Michael Habeeb, North American Switchgear Inc.
Rich Goelz, Electrical Advertiser
Winn Hardin, Hardin Business Communications
Thanks for your time, and hope to hear your voice soon at one of our monthly meetings,
Bill Schofield, Internet Committee Chair
