Marketing - Newsletter Committee Report August 2010
PEARL's Marketing Committee has just completed PEARL's first white paper. The paper, which is also a first for the electrical industry, offers a statistical analysis of how much 'embedded' energy and pollution reconditioned electrical equipment saves compared to manufacturing new electrical equipment - even when that new equipment include recycled metals and materials. The paper uses a 3000 kVA transformer as an example.
"Reconditioning: The Ultimate Form of Recycling," should be available to PEARL members for download from the PEARL website (www.pearl1.org) within the next few weeks. Several members have already obtained copies of the paper for their own 'green' marketing initiatives. The National Association of Electrical Distributors, through their magazine TED GreenRoom, was the first to publish excerpts from the new paper in their July 2010 issue. Electrical Wholesaling is expected to publish an article in September, which is expected to include much of the statistical analysis that is the heart of the paper.
PEARL knows that members expect the association to help them make more money, which is why 'create a marketable distinction,' is part of the PEARL mission. The 'Green' Paper isn't the only thing PEARL marketing is trying to do to help members. We're also exploring an idea proffered by Norman Coyne at Western States Circuit Breakers and PEARL President, Brian Corekin. Norm's has used PEARL standards and test reports to highlight the professional reconditioning services offered by his company. The result has been several big contracts during the last few years (watch for a story on Norm's successes in an upcoming issue of PEARL $AFE). As a result of Norm's success, PEARL is exploring the possibility of developing professional-looking sales materials that members could submit with their responses to RFPs/RFQ's. The joint project with the PEARL Internet Committee could result in an expanded membership directory on the PEARL Website, which would in turn supply information that Marketing could use to 'brand' PEARL sell sheets with each company's unique information.
The Newsletter Committee is in the middle of a push to expand our membership. If you know of anyone that would benefit from the technical reconditioning information, industry news, or Tech Talk Challenge, please pass his or her email along to us.
Thanks for your time, and hope to hear your voice soon at one of our monthly meetings,
David Rosenfield, Marketing/Newsletter Committee Chair
