Don't Get Bit by Bogus SCCR Panel Ratings
SCCR RatingHaving the wrong short circuit current rating (SCCR) on control panels, machinery, and even HVAC systems can be a major source of liability for companies if equipment or an employee is hurt by an arc flash. Unfortunately, having the right SCCR is a responsibility shared by everyone from the panel design engineer to facility personnel. Learn how NEC 110.10 requires SCCR to be equal or greater than maximum short circuit currents, regardless of whether the panel is new, or has been updated. Either way, you need to know your risk, responsibilities, and liability if you want to avoid the SCCR trap...Read More

When Do You Need 100% Rated Breakers?
If the continuous load is more than 80% of a standard circuit breaker rating, you better tell the customer they need a 100%-rated breaker. Balancing the load with another panel under 80% is one way to avoid this problem. Otherwise, double check that the enclosure is rated to handle 100%-rated breakers and that the all parts are correctly labeled...Read More

How To: Inspect, Recondition and Test Low Voltage Plug-In Type Bus Duct and Feeder Type Bus Duct
As building and plant sizes grow, it can be cost effective to distribute plant power using plug-in bus systems as the primary conductors rather than conduit and wire. These devices usually include circuit protection by way of fusing or circuit breakers. Feeder bus systems are typically high current systems where running wire would demand that the conduits be very large and run in multiples in order to provide the necessary current. Feeder duct allows very high current runs in single enclose busways but these are not designed to provide disconnecting means along the way...Read More
