Introduction to Standard Numbers 1000, 1010 and 6000
General Information, Calibration Standards, and Tables Relative To
PEARL's Inspection, Reconditioning and Testing Standards
I. Introduction
A technical standard is a formal document that establishes uniform engineering or technical criteria, methods, processes and practices. PEARL's Reconditioning Standards define term "reconditioning" as "the process of returning electrical equipment to safe and reliable operating condition based upon the design of the original manufacturer at the time of manufacturing." The authority of these standards comes from existing industry standards, including testing and calibration from private organizations and government agencies; original device specifications; and accepted best practices that have been verified by third party engineering evaluation. The 100+ individual PEARL Reconditioning Standards share three common references that PEARL includes with its standards, namely:
- Section 1000 General Information
- Section 1010 PEARL Calibration Standard
- Section 6000 Tables
II. Section 1000 General Information, 1010 Calibration Standard
Section 1000 of the PEARL Reconditioning Standards contains General Information and a single procedure as follows:
- Forward
- Important Notice
- Credits
- Acknowledgments
- Standard Terms & Warranties
- 1010 PEARL Calibration Standard
In these sections, PEARL offers clarifications as to terms and sources that are part of or contributed to the Standards.
Section 1010 PEARL Calibration Standard, details the requirements for a member to keep and maintain test equipment and records of regular maintenance and calibration testing traceable to Nation Institute of Standards and Technology-NIST. In order for a member to qualify for full voting membership in PEARL they must provide documentation as proof of an up to date equipment calibration program.
III. Section 6000 Tables
Standards Section 6000-Tables comprises all published fixed value tables commonly held and accepted in the US as industrial standards. Section 6000 consists of eleven individual tables as follows:
- 6001 Table 1 - U.S. Standard Bus Connection Bolt Torque Values
- 6002 Table 2 - Insulation Resistance Test Values for Electrical Apparatus
- 6003 Table 3 - Molded Case Circuit Breaker Inverse Time Trip Test Values
- 6004 Table 4 - Adjustable Trip Circuit Breaker Instantaneous Trip Setting Tolerances
- 6005 Table 5 - Overpotential Test Voltages for Non-Inductive Electrical Apparatus
- 6006 Table 6 - Transformer Insulation Resistance Test Values
- 6007 Table 7 - Power Factor/Dissipation Factor Recommended Test Voltage Values
- 6008 Table 8 - Maximum Allowable Vibration Amplitude Test Values
- 6009 Table 9 - Wire and Cable Insulation Resistance Test Values
- 6010 Table 10 - Medium Voltage Wire and Cable Maximum Test Voltage Values
- 6011 Table 11 - Insulation Resistance Test Temperature Conversion to 20° C Values
When a fully vested voting PEARL member (who has been site certified for use and application of the PEARL Reconditioning Standards and the PEARL Quality marks) follows the PEARL Reconditioning Standard using the above referenced tables and complies with the above referenced Calibration Standard that reconditioned product is eligible for application of the Blue PEARL Reconditioned Quality Seal.
