Introduction to Standard Numbers 5100, 5200, 5300 & 5400
Inspection and Reconditioning of
Conduit, Fittings and Accessories
I. Introduction
Conduit, fittings and accessories section refer to metal and non-metallic tubing for protecting wire and cable. It includes all of the necessary parts and pieces to route wire from its service source to its final load destination. These parts are necessary to initiate and terminate conduit runs between distribution panels, control boxes, and actual load devices such as lights or electric motors, while maintaining the integrity of the protection levels promised by the type of conduit and fittings being used. Standards for reconditioning conduit, fittings and accessories involve cleaning, inspecting, and in some cases resurfacing. There is no testing other than thread testing.
Individual standards in these sections include:

III. Inspection
The PEARL Standard Sections 5100, 5200, 5300 and 5400 Metallic, Non-Metallic, Explosion Proof, and PVC Coated Metallic Conduit, Fittings and Accessories all begin with identification of the product type and class being reconditioned.
Section I for PEARL Standard Sections 5100, 5200, 5300 and 5400 Metallic, Non-Metallic, Explosion Proof, and PVC Coated Metallic Conduit, Fittings and Accessories, identifies proper items to subject to visual inspection.
IV. Reconditioning
Section II Reconditioning Procedures describes how to recondition each component and assembly, and may include one or more of the following procedures
- Disassembly
- Cleaning
- Degreasing
- Deburring
- Plating
- Painting
- Lubricating
- Adjusting
- Repackaging
- Proper package labeling as necessary and per PEARL Policy on Labeling.
If a PEARL certified technician follows the reconditioning standard, conduit, fittings and accessories is eligible for a Blue PEARL Reconditioned Quality Seal.
